Porno guys got cheap multi-year leases on most of " The Deuce" and surrounding blocks. Formerly unrentable retail stores became "storefront theaters." A plywood partition was built to house the projector, the back wall was painted white or a sheet hung up, a few dozen folding chairs were lined up, and the windows were blacked out. Usually a window had something on it to entice you in - a painted silhouette of a naked woman or a glaring cheap sign, framed out in yellow light bulbs, proclaiming "XXX Movies." Now, After Hours Cinema and yours truly, 42P, are going to give you the storefront theater viewing experience. But we can only show you this gonad-bursting collection of classic films, painfully restored from their original grimy elements.

From the vantage point of the 21st century, the 1970s seems like a wild and woolly time, a period when artists and entertainers took advantage of the strides made in the 1960s and created work that was ground-breaking… and in many cases uniquely bizarre.
